In Memory of Pedro Antonio Casimiro
Pedro Antonio Casimiro was born April 18, 1928 in Santiago, Dominican Republic. In 1964, at the age of 36, he migrated to NYC.
Prior to leaving his native country, Pedro operated his own shoe repair shop in downtown Santiago. For many years his micro, one-man operation provided the financial support needed to maintain his family's household and to keep the business running.
His wife, Maria, made sure to share with their four children to never forget how Pedro would struggle to make ends meet at home and in his business. She also shared that regardless of how financially challenged the family found themselves in, Pedro would always find the way to contribute to youth who were in greater financial need and that were often less fortunate than his own children.
For this reason, it is our intention and commitment to continue fostering Pedro's emphasis on self-sufficiency, hard work ethics, and philanthropy.
Inspired by his father, in the Fall of 2000, Juan Pablo Casimiro created the Casimiro Foundation shortly after Pedro's passing due to a severe case of Alzheimer's desease.
Using Pedro's fortitude, courage and the need to help fulfill the dreams of underprivileged Hispanic youth, the Casimiro Foundation seeks to meet its mission of broadening and advancing educational activities. Through their uniquely designed programs that benefit needy youth, more young people will now be able to pursue an undergraduate college business degree.
